Answers

I can not connect to IRC.
Send us an email (irc@irc.belwue.de) with the information requested above.

What is a bot?
A very good definition can be found at:
http://www.funet.fi/~irc/bots.html.

Why am I restricted and what does this mean? ("server sets mode +r")
Basically, restricted means you can not change your nick or have channel operator status. You can still chat, of course.
A restricted connection can have the following reasons:
Connecting from a net which does not have a working reverse lookup. (If this is the case, please contact your internet service provider/ system administrator)
Connecting from a net which is not a known german net (for example, if the domain does not end with the top level domain .de).
Connecting from the t-ip-connect.de net This is a special case. Please consult: http://www.ircd.de/doc/sperrung.html.

If none of the 3 reasons apply, write us an email.

Why am I k-lined?
This can have many reasions, the server will always supply a reason. Please read the error message thoroughly, and, if you email us, cite it.
Most common reason:
You may have abused the service, used bots or have tried to connect multiple times. This can also apply to your net, and the responsible system adminstrator has not replied to our email. If this is the case, please contact the responsible system administrator yourself.
Another reason:
Your internet service provider does not run an ident daemon, in which case we can not lock out the individual user but have to k-line the complete net from that internet service provider.

What does "k:-line Network compromised - See hackreport.magicnet.org" mean?
The network you are connecting from has been used for an attack of the IRCNet. This attack requires superuser status on a computer of this net, thus the complete net is locked out and the responsible network adminstrator has been contacted via email. Information on how to unlock the net and identifying the responsible network administrator can be found at:
http://hackreport.magicnet.org/.

Why can I not see the complete channel list using /list?
The output of /list, with more than 24000 channels, will create data of about 630kByte in size which the server wants to send you at once. Your connection may be overloaded and your irc client can not report back to the irc server.
It is easier to consult
http://www.ludd.luth.se/irc/list.html, for a list of channels, which also maybe easier to handle instead of the /list syntax.
Besides, there is also a service you can use: /squery alis help resp. If the client does not support the /squery command, please use: /quote squery alis :help

Someone has taken my channel!
We do not interfere with channel matters.
Channels are not owned, neither are nicknames.
Advice: Continue to chat on another channel.

Someone has taken my channel after a netsplit!
This can be prevented by using !channels.
Information about this channel type can be found at:
http://www.stealth.net/~kalt/irc/channel.html.

Your server is making unauthorized connections to/attacking my computer!
Upon connection from your client our server will try to make a connection to the TCP ports 80, 113, 1080, 3128 and 8080. This behaviour is intended and neither illegal nor an attack.

Short explanation:

Hint:
Users, who disregard internet standards and do not decline or ignore TCP connections (RST or ICMP) to above mention ports will have to wait for the timeouts and can complain to the person responsible. We, as IRC-Opers, can not do anything about this.

Other TCP ports can show up as backscatter from denial of service attacks. In this case, occurance of originating ports 22, 113, 80, 6665, 6669, 7000 can happen.
Backscatter is a peculiarity of the IP protocol suite which we, as service providers, can not do anything about.

You are not welcome to this server: ident required (rfc1413)

Due to heavy abuse caused by open proxies T-online Users (*.t-dialin.net) are required to have a correct ident reply since August, 18th 2003.
